Long by Valery Joseph Nourish Shampoo & Conditioner Review by Jinra Ilustrisimo on Feb 17, 2017

After interviewing celebrity hairstylist Valery Joseph, we were very curious to see what the Long by Valery Joseph hair care line was all about. To start, I spent the last three weeks using the Long by Valery Joseph Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner.

Design/Packaging

The design of the bottles for both the Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner (300 ml/10 oz) are unlike anything you've ever seen before. The bottles are rectangular in shape and lack a traditional bottle cap. Instead of a bottle cap, there's an attached lid that flips open. This is genius in that you don't have to awkwardly unscrew the cap in the shower like you would a standard bottle. Just flip open the lid and squeeze into your palm! This is faster, easier to use and less messy.

One other thing to note is that you get 10 oz of product for both the Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner. Considering that a little goes a long way with both products, this amount of product will take some time to finish. I'm estimating that I'll be good for up to four months with my short hair and tendency to wash every other day.

Interestingly, if you place the bottles side-by-side, the labels combine together to form one graphic. (pictured above)

Color/Texture

The Nourish Shampoo is a milky, pearly off-white color. The texture feels very much like a silky smooth gel/cream hybrid. It produces a low, but even amount of lather. There's no robust lather because it's organic and lacks sulfates (a very good thing).

The Nourish Conditioner looks a lot like melted butter from afar. This is fitting since it has a unique, buttery smooth lotion feel to it. I am often wishing it was available for the body when I'm using it.

Scent

Both Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner features a floral scent that reminds me a lot of jasmine. The scent is rather light and not too overpowering. It doesn't linger very long in the hair, nor will it compete with fragrance that you apply. That said, it's suitable for any gender.

Performance

Having used both the Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner for the past three weeks, I can say that my hair has never looked or felt better. This is a bold statement for me because it is already naturally straight, thick and voluminous.

Regardless of the natural state of my hair, I've tried all kinds of shampoos and conditioners at both ends of the price spectrum. I've never really been able to be a great judge of shampoo and conditioner performance since my hair pretty much does what I want it to do. After using the Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner, I now feel like I can better distinguish what's doing something for me and what's not.

It's helped me achieve impossibly great hair over the weeks. By that I mean, it's shinier, bouncier, silkier to the touch and does not feel or look dry. My at-home blowouts can last longer than usual and there's no bedhead or random ends sticking out of place in the morning. My scalp doesn't get as oily as it used to, and this is because it's doing a great job of balancing the moisture in my scalp.

If you're in the market for a great shampoo and conditioner that'll give you naturally shiny, silky, bouncy, healthy hair, I highly recommend the Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner.

Availability: Barneys, Amazon, Net-A-Porter, $36 (shampoo) & $38 (conditioner)
